Apple looks set to bring smile and blink detection to iOS 7, after the newest beta release of the operating system revealed new APIs for such features.
These new additions are primarily aimed at developers working on new, or updated, iOS 7 camera apps. But they point towards the next generation iPhone’s snapper also coming with the tech baked in.
Apple pulled a similar trick when it introduced face detection two years ago as part of iOS 5, before rolling it out on devices when the operating system left beta.
The move would help to put Apple right up against a slew of Android devices, as well as the BlackBerry Z10, that tote best shot modes to ensure everyone looks ship shape when taking group shots.
iOS 7 beta 2 was only released yesterday, so expect to hear plenty more about tweaks and changes as developers delve into the back end of the year’s most anticipated software boost.
