UK smartphone vendors have cut the asking price of the current-generation iPhone, in a further sign that a new Apple handset is set to land in September.

Since then, Dialaphone has also trimmed its iPhone 5 price, cutting the upfront fee from £99 to £50 when customers sign up for a two year contract on T-Mobile at £32 per month. Allowances here are 1,000 minutes per month and unlimited data and texts.

The fresh round of discounting on the part of mobile market operators comes as rumours gather around the forthcoming iPhone, which technology websites have alternately dubbed the ‘iPhone 5S’ and ‘iPhone 6’.

Powered by the redesigned iOS 7 operating system unveiled by Apple last month, the handset is reportedly home to a much more powerful A7 processor, as well as fingerprint scanning technology for improve security.

The feature set of the smartphone, which may or may not be accompanied by a plastic low-cost model, is also reputed to take in a larger screen and the same tilt-to-scroll functionality as Samsung’s Galaxy S4.
