Virgin Media has waived the upfront fee on the Samsung Galaxy S3, ahead of the arrival of a suite of new handsets vying for tech fans’ smartphone dollar in months to come.
The carrier is now offering the Galaxy S3 for free from £25 per month on a two-year contract, with allowances of 200 anytime, any-network minutes and 500MB of mobile data per month, plus unlimited texts.
If you’re with Virgin for your broadband or TV, you qualify for the same allowances but for £5 less per month.
Samsung’s largest-selling phone ever by some distance, the Galaxy S3 was also the company’s first kit to boast features exclusive to its Nature UX interface, such as the Smart Stay intelligent pause mode and a Siri-style voice-activated personal assistant.
A software update for the handset to bring it up to version 4.2.2 of Android is expected soon. This is set to introduce some of the Nature UX functions that have until now remained exclusive to the Galaxy S4, including tilt to scroll.
