iPhone 5C. Get used to that name, because it looks as if that’s what Apple is going to call its much-mooted budget iPhone.
This new moniker has come courtesy of a leaked image which appears to show packaging for the cheap cell. Each plastic box has an official-looking iPhone 5C logo on the front, with space for a charging cable and warranty documents.
What’s more, the design of the cade mirrors that used for Apple’s various iPod models, which have a clear plastic upper to showcase the device’s design and, most importantly, colour.
It’s been suggested by the chaps at MacRumors that the ‘C’ in iPhone 5C could stand for colour. That would certainly make sense seeing as the forthcoming device is supposed to come in a string of different hues.
In going with iPhone 5C for its budget effort, Apple will be free to use iPhone 5S for its flagship product, sticking with the naming convention it has used since upgrading the iPhone 3G to 3GS in 2009.
Both handsets are expected to launch at some point in September.
