Apple’s newly released beta 4 version of iOS 7 doesn’t just cram in a heap of bug fixes for developers to toy with. It also includes code which confirms long-standing rumours that Cupertino’s next iPhone will pack a fingerprint sensor as part of its home button.
The huge discovery was made by developer Hamza Sood, who found a file within iOS 7’s code called ‘BiometricKitUI’. Within it he found instructions on how to use the system.
The instructions read: “Photo of a person holding an iPhone with their left hand while touching the Home button with their thumb; A fingerprint that changes colour during the setup process. iPhoto of a person holding an iPhone with their right hand while touching the Home button with their thumb.”
A ‘source familiar with the development of the new iPhone’ has also told 9to5mac that Apple has finished work on the fingerprint scanning system, which will be used to lock and unlock the device.
Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 5S and budget iPhone 5C at a special event in September.
