LG is readying its first Windows Phone 8 device. That’s the word direct from an LG exec, who says its engineers are already beavering away on the new handset.
“At home [in South Korea], we are actually working on our Windows Phone 8 OS powered smartphone,” said Soon H Kwon, LG India’s MD.
“Android is the major platform globally, given its acceptance and penetration. Although, we believe that Windows will pick up going ahead, as Microsoft is pumping efforts into it.”
Microsoft has been at the front of smartphone news in the past week. Nokia’s new Lumia 1020 has put it in the headlines as have plans to extend support for Windows Phone 8 from 18 to 36 months.
LG would join Samsung, Nokia, Huawei, ZTE and HTC in offering Windows Phone 8 devices. The platform currently has 2.9 per cent smartphone market share.
