BBM’s long-awaited arrival on Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android platforms is edging ever closer, after the service was put into beta on both operating systems.
BlackBerry has rolled out the BBM beta in its Beta Zone developer space, sending out invites to a select number of users. Word is that punters will need iOS 6 or higher for it to play nice.
An official release date has yet to be confirmed, but BlackBerry said in May when it revealed its plans that it was gunning for a summer release. With the warm days of the year fast coming to an end, the Canadian mobile maker will need to get its skates on to make that promise.
BBM will face stiff competition from the likes of Apple’s iMessage, as well as WhatsApp, which was rumoured to be the subject of a takeover bid by Google earlier this year.
