Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to pack eight-core processor?

The next version of the Samsung Galaxy Note could be the first handset to be powered by a super-buff, gym-honed octa-core processor, reports suggest.

According to sources cited by Korean site DigiTimes, Samsung will begin using eight-core – count ‘em, that’s eight – and quad-core processors manufactured by MediaTek during the second half of 2014, after the parts-supplier agreed to deal to join Samsung's supply chain.

The report doesn’t name the Galaxy Note range, which currently use Exynos chips, specifically in conjunction with octa-core processors. But the fact that new versions of that handset appear in September means it’s the Samsung phone that's most likely to debut the beefier chipsets.

Fresh editions of the Galaxy S usually drop in March, suggesting that Samsung’s flagship smartphone might not be invited to the octa-core hoedown. For now, anyway.

News of Samsung’s plans follows reports that the phone-maker will launch a flexible screen-equipped version of the Galaxy S4 next week, after years of touting the technology in concept phones at tech trade shows.

It’s thought that the handset will be marketed as a fresh iteration of sports-flavoured Galaxy Activ toughphone, with marketing blurb certain to make much of the display’s bendy, shock-resistant properties.
