Google Nexus 4 owners who’ve updated to the latest version of Android are reporting problems with their handset, giving lie to the notion that OS bumps on Nexus devices always run smoother than an especially silky mix of Yacht Rock jams.
According to user testimonies on forums and a report from Android Police, since updating to Android 4.4, aka KitKat a number of Nexus 4 users claim their home button and lockscreen no longer work.
The site has also uncovered accounts that attest to issues with the phone’s setting toggle and glitches with the camera. Worst of all, though, is that in some cases the phone’s dialler is broken too, so making calls isn’t much of a goer.
According to the site, the prevalence of the problems isn’t terribly consistent. Some Nexus 4 owners are problem-free. While others report some or all of the above glitches.
If you’ve been affected it seems the failsafe fix is to perform a factory reset on your handset. Alternatively, sit tight and wait until Google does something to tackle the problem with a patch. Neither of those options are especially appealing or convenient, though.
