Google Glass project set to expand

Google is looking to expand its Glass project, it has emerged, after rolling out the tech specs to friends and family of its existing install base of 1,500 users.

The drive to improve the reach of the scheme will increase its user base three-fold, in the process bagging Google $1,500 from each new punter.

Current so-called ‘Explorers’ will be able to invite three friends or family members to join the Glass project. However, these newbies will not be made to come into Google's offices in New York or LA for a training session, unlike the first crop of early adopters.

Instead, Google is sending out Glass and lining-up one-to-one Hangouts to take these new users through the futuristic product. Sadly, this all remains a Stateside affair for now.

Mountain View has yet to reveal exactly when Google Glass will become commercially available.

Although it regularly rolls out software updates to users and has shown the product off to press and media, it’s unlikely that the techno eyewear will be up for grabs from Google Play until much later in 2014.
