HTC M8 specs revealed

HTC has been having a torrid time keeping its forthcoming flagship device, codenamed the M8, out of the headlines. But a new set of benchmark results have ensured that tech fanatics can now check out the handset’s specs well ahead of its planned release.

The M8 is due to pack a 5-inch 1080p display, a jump from the 4.7-inch effort found on this year’s HTC One. Under the bonnet, the device will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, with Android 4.4 KitKat keeping things ticking along in the OS department.

Storage will clock in at 16GB, with a more than ample 2GB of RAM.

The camera looks set to remain the same as that found on the One. That means a 4-megpixel ‘Ultrapixel’ snapper, backed up by a 2.1 megapixel number up front.

While a release date has yet to be confirmed, HTC traditionally reveals its new top-end device for the year either at or around the time of Mobile World Congress. That means we should get official word by the middle of February.

HTC has suffered a tough year, despite the critical success of the One and a number of its other handsets. It posted a loss in the last quarter, with rumours flying that it may be the subject of a takeover bid in 2014.
