Owners of the Sony Xperia Z1 ought to get an update to the newest edition of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean imminently, rumours suggest, ahead of the arrival of the latest 4.4 KitKat software next year.
The very unofficial Xperia blog today reports that the Xperia Z1 has sailed through what's pretty much the final stage of testing (that’s the PTCRB phase, software-testing pedants), pointing to a rollout any day now.
That’s an impression confirmed when Tech Radar pressed Sony for details and gleaned that the upgrade is now “around the corner” and is set to “kick off throughout December”.
Other Sony devices purportedly also due to get the freshest version of Android 4.3 are the Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP and the Xperia Z Ultra. All of which should be joining the party this month too.
Due dates for Android 4.4 are anyone’s guess right now. But last month Sony at least reassured the Xperia faithful that KitKat is on way next year and named the first kits to get it as the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1.
