The iPhone 6 could retain the same 8-megapixel sensor found in the three previous iPhones, it has emerged, amid supply-chain rumours that the sensor’s inclusion is partly to blame for a slip in profits for camera-supplier Largan Precision.

Largan is likely to keep Apple’s camera module business, because, according to analysts, it’s uniquely placed to serve-up components that are increasingly small but still cram in incredibly complex technology.

Word is that Apple does not wish to up the sensor of the iPhone 6 to 12 or 16 megapixels.

Instead, Cupertino is said to be focusing on boosting the camera’s image-stabilisation tech and tweaking its aperture. This has clearly caused investors some concern, hence the slide in Largan’s share price.

Apple's approach has seen an 8-megapixel camera retained across the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S since 2011. However, improvements in other areas have ensured its camera remains one of the best available on a smartphone.
