Apple apostles can look forward to a significantly better camera with the next iPhone, according to the latest rumblings from the tech rumour mill.

A report from the fantastically geekily named Chinese site IT 168, which was picked up on by GforGames, cites sources claiming that the iPhone 6 will swap the current model’s eight-megapixel camera for a ten-megapixel snapper.

But that’s not all. We can also expect a wider f/1.8 aperture - up from f/2.2. This allows more light in, which ought to make for bolder, better colours and improved performance in low-light conditions.

Completing the enhancements is a change to the brand and style of filter used. Instead of the iPhone 5S’s hybrid IR filter, the sixth-gen model will get a resin lens filter made by JSR. This is apparently lighter and thinner and ought to spell clearer images.

A major camera upgrade is arguably overdue with the iPhone 6, after Apple opted to retain the iPhone 5’s eight-megapixel snapper last time and contented itself with improving the images sensor, adding a dual LED flash and widening the aperture.
