MWC 2014: Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit – New smart watch revealed

Samsung has revealed a third new smartwatch at Mobile World Congress, marking a busy start to the year for the gadget-maker as it bids to make the Galaxy S4's disappointing sales a dim and distant memory.

Showcased yesterday alongside the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Gear Fit is a health–focused bit of wearable tech, packing a heart-rate sensor and fitness smarts into a slimline package.

The device rocks a curved AMOLED display, clocking in at 1.85–inches. Its similar in style to the flexible screen seen on last year’s Galaxy Round handset. The design means it sits neatly on the wrist and apes fitness bands from the likes of Nike and Fitbit.

There’s the usual array of activity tracking, from distance covered to calories burned, as well as heart rate measuring skills.

Samsung has also thrown in the same apps as its new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo devices, not to mention the ability to check out notifications and view calls (although you can’t answer them).

The OS is a custom build and not related to the Gear 2’s Tizen or the original Galaxy Gear’s Android software. Sadly, it’ll only pair with Sammy kit too, so iPhone and Nexus users should probably look away now.

The price is yet to be confirmed, but Samsung is due to release the Galaxy Gear Fit in April.
