Nokia X brings Windows Phone live tiles to Android, photos reveal

Screenshots of Nokia’s debut Android phone have leaked online, giving us our first glimpse of the device’s homescreen and our first chance to see just how different Nokia’s forked version of Google’s OS will be.

Sourced by French tech and pop culture site Nowhereelse.fr, the snaps show a radically different take on the search giant's operating system adorned with a series of live tiles seemingly lifted straight from Windows Phone.

The result could be a handset that combines the huge app catalogue of Android with the super-clean, modern UI of Microsoft’s platform. That’s a lot of win in anyone’s book.

The snaps also confirm that in place of Google apps, the device features the Big M’s equivalents, effectively banishing the most visible traces of the search giant. Instead of Google Maps, for instance, you can clearly see Nokia Maps as the largest tile in the first photo.

Accompanying images of the Nokia X's shell don’t show us too much we haven’t seen before, thanks to the profusion of spyshots and catalogue photos that have come our way from @evleaks in recent weeks.

But while those showed versions of the Nokia X in the kind of acid colour schemes that characterise its Lumia phones, this version sports a sober grey colourway that’s more in keeping with common-or-garden Android phones.

Nokia is set to officially unveil the X, which is the last-ever Nokia phone before the company becomes a division of Microsoft, at Mobile World Congress later this month.
