Samsung’s Galaxy S5 will be on sale before the month is out, one of The Continent’s larger carriers has suggested.
Press invites sent out by the phone-maker earlier this month confirmed that the next-gen Samsung flagship is being unveiled to the tech world on February 24th at Mobile World Congress.
In keeping with previous Galaxy S phone release schedules, the S5 was expected to go on sale a month later. The S4, by way of example, emerged blinking into the light at a press call on March 14th, but wasn’t actually available to buy until the best of six weeks or so after.
This time around, though, it looks like things could be different, with Samsung seemingly set to capitalise on the hype and tech-press heat around the handset by getting it in to shops much faster.
At least that’s the impression O2 Germany gave today, after it put up a webpage bearing the strapline ‘Ende Februar mehr erfahren”. Or in English: “Learn more at the end of February.”
The teaser has been interpreted as a sign that the network could offer the phone for sale, or at the very least pre-order, within a week of its launch.
If that’s true, and it’s a very big ‘if’, Samsung’s propensity to prioritise the UK market for new phones means we’ll sure get the Galaxy S5 then too.
Samsung’s forthcoming smartphone is expected to be the first-ever Galaxy S phone with a metal frame, after the Galaxy S4 took untold flak for its purportedly cheap-feeling plastic shell.
Touch ID-style fingerprint security is also likely to be on board, alongside a slightly larger screen and a 20-megapixel camera.
