Apple iPad Pro shelved according to reports

Apple appears to have killed off plans for its 12.9–inch iPad Pro. That’s according to a report from Taiwan’s Digitimes, in a wide–ranging look at why larger format tablets look destined to fail.

According to the team at Digitimes Research, tablet-makers are struggling to make the case for 13–inch slates among the developer community.

It also claims that the device’s ecosystems are not designed to be used on such capacious displays.

Samsung has already released two 13–inch models this year, the Galaxy Tab Pro and Galaxy Note Pro. The report states that neither are likely to sell more than a combined one million units.

The iPad Pro has been gossiped about for the best part of a year, with insiders suggesting Apple had begun testing out different screen sizes.

However, with sales of the iPad Air remaining steady, it now seems Cupertino will stick with its current lineup.
