iPhone 5C 8GB model released, comes in £50 cheaper

Apple has unveiled a version of the iPhone 5C with less storage and a lower price, presumably in a bid to stimulate weaker-than-expected sales of the plastic handset.

The 8GB model of the iPhone 5C, which is otherwise unchanged from the standard 16GB edition, comes in at £429 if you pick it up SIM free and off-contract. That's £50 cheaper than the regular model.

Opt for a monthly contract and there are some pretty fair deals around. EE has confirmed it is carrying the handset and that it will be up for grabs on a time-limited promotion for £18.99 per month, plus £99 upfront, when you pick it up on a 4G plan.

Go with O2, which is the first UK carrier off the mark with pricing, and the lowest priced contract is £43 per month. Although at the time of writing O2’s shop was down for maintenance, which rather negates its early-mover advantage.

As well as a lightweight polycarbonate construction, the iPhone 5C’s standout features include a more powerful A6 processor, a long-life battery that offers more longevity than any other iPhone iteration and an enhanced eight-megapixel camera with 1080 HD video recording.
