iPhone 6: September launch date for two new handsets

Apple’s iPhone 6 will launch in September, with Cupertino offering two new variants. That’s according to Nikkei in Japan, which says that production is due to ramp up early as Apple looks to tinker its launch cycle.

As with previous rumours from major news outlets including the WSJ and Bloomberg, Nikkei claims that Apple is prepping 4.7–inch and 5.5–inch iPhones. Both are said to have much higher resolutions than the current iPhone 5s.

Word is that suppliers will start work on mass production of displays as soon as next month, swinging into full gear over the next three months. Touch ID parts and chipsets are already believed to be in production.

Analysts claimed this week that Apple may be looking to launch the two iPhones separately, with the larger, phablet model coming at a later date. Either way, it appears clear that Tim Cook and co are working on a two–pronged strategy, despite the failure of last year’s iPhone 5c.
