Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 to get Android 4.4 in next few months, leaked doc suggests

The latest version of Android should start rolling out to older Galaxy smartphones from next month, ending what’s been a lengthy wait for the platform bump.

A leaked document sourced by Sam Mobile suggests that Android 4.4 (KitKat) will start rolling out to the international versions of the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 between April and May.

With Samsung’s UK software rollouts never deviating too much from international ones, we think it’s safe to say that we’ll get the update then too.

The lesser-spotted Galaxy Grand 2 is also in line for a welcome upgrade to KitKat around this time, the internal doc states.

But before you getting all hot under the collar and excited, it’s worth noting that these putative due dates apply to unlocked editions of the Galaxy range. Those are handsets bought SIM free and off-contract.

If you bought your Galaxy smartie on a pay monthly contract – and we’re guessing that’s pretty much everyone – you’ll have to wait a bit longer while your carrier approves it and finishes testing.

Galaxy Note 3 users in the UK got KitKat this month, adding a suite of improvements to their handsets, including cloud printing, bug fixes and a tweaked design for the dialler and some apps.
