Amazon’s new smartphone could be launched within the next two or three months, if a new report citing sources close to the company is to be believed.

BGR has snared a string of details about the new phone, which will use glasses–free 3D technology. Word is this eyeball–stroking feature will utilise four infra–red cameras on each corner of the handset’s screen.

Users will be able to view different angles on maps using the 3D effects, as well as get a three dimensional view of products they’re shopping for on Amazon’s on–board digital market place.

The retail giant is said to be talking to major developers about getting them to create versions of their apps which use the 3D smarts to full effects. This could help Amazon differentiate its kit from rival efforts.

Specs–wise, the handset is said to come with a 4.7–inch 720p HD screen, 2GB of RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and the same custom version of Google Android found on its Kindle Fire tablets.

A second, budget version of the phone is due to follow later in the year. Both are set to debut in the US only, with no word on an international release.
