Apple: Heartbleed has not affected iOS or ‘key web services’

Apple has confirmed that none of its software and web services have been affected by this week’s Heartbleed flaw.

The issue has seen thousands of websites’ security breached, with users told to change passwords to protect personal information.

In a statement, the tech giant said: “Apple takes security very seriously. iOS and OS X never incorporated the vulnerable software and key web-based services were not affected.”

Heartbleed has been billed as a ‘catastrophic’ event, rated at 11 on a scale of 1 to 10 for its seriousness according to security experts.

It attacks OpenSSL encryption tech, with Facebook, Google and Yahoo! all confirming that their services could have been hit.

Apple suffered its own SSL breach earlier this year. It was forced to rush release an update to iOS 7 after it was found that hackers could access email and other communications apps, snaring login details in the process.
