Apple WWDC event pegged for June 2nd

Apple has confirmed that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take place between June 2nd-6th in San Francisco. The Cupertino company is expected to reveal iOS 8 and outline its intentions for the future of the platform.

While Apple has not confirmed iOS 8 will be on show, WWDC is when it traditionally shows off a fresh, all-new iteration of the software that powers the iPhone and iPad.

It’s promised that developers will ‘learn about the future of iOS’ at this year’s bash, so it seems nailed on that iOS 8 will get an airing.

The updated software is not expected to usher in the same radical design changes as last year’s iOS 7. However, one key new feature is said to be HealthBook.

Leaked screenshots have already shown this fitness–focused app taking metrics including hydration levels and even blood sugar.

While little more is known about how HealthBook will measure these vital signs, many believe it will dovetail with Apple’s iWatch. That device is unlikely to take a bow until September.

iOS 8 will most likely be available to those on Apple’s developer programme immediately after WWDC, going through months of testing before a general release in the autumn.
