A render of a hitherto unheard-of handset from HTC has set tech-tongues wagging today, as all eyes turn to the Taiwanese phone-maker to see if it can recover from 3013’s below-par sales performance.
Posted by @evleaks, aka the closest the mobile world has to an all-seeing, all-leaking oracle, the image shows a phone we’re assured is called the HTC M8 Ace in a sober shade of red.
It’s hard to make out too much about it, except a vague hint of what might be front-facing stereo speakers which we’re basing on the perforations at the base and top of the phone.
This could mean it packs the same BoomSound technology as the HTC One M8 – a feature many regard as one of the handset’s standout selling points.
That’d be very impressive indeed if the Ace is indeed intended as a lower-cost, scaled-down version of its big brother, as some tech-watchers have posited.
What’s even less certain than that, though, is whether the brand name ‘Ace’ would ever make it to market.
But given that Samsung already uses that moniker for one of its best-selling budget-priced Galaxy efforts, we rather suspect it’s merely a codename and will be ditched when the phone lands on shop shelves.
