Huawei will bring a super-fast Cat6 smartphone to market this year with maximum mobile internet speeds of up to 300Mbps, as the phone-maker gears up for a renewed assault on the UK market.
Cat6, the new standard for mobile broadband, offers speeds comparable to the UK's fastest pure-fibre home broadband products from Virgin Media and BT.
The new Ascend P7, which was unveiled yesterday, is a Cat 4 device and is capable of a comparatively sluggish 150Mpbs on supported networks.
President of Huawei's consumer division for Europe Richard Ren told uSwitch: "In this first half of the year, we will launch a lot of Cat4 products.
"But in the coming second half of the year, we will launch the Cat6 smartphone.
"Because we have our HiSilcon chipset, we can stay a bit ahead in this industry.”
Huawei didn’t mention the name of the mobile phone, but it is likely to be part of its P series of high-end handsets.
The unnamed phone will also be accompanied by the Cat6-capable Huawei E5786 mobile broadband dongle that the company announced at Mobile World Congress 2015 , where we got busy with it for a hands-on video.
