iPhone 6: Demand starts to dip as launch nears

Consumers in the U.S are putting off purchasing a new iPhone and waiting for Apple to reveal its new iPhone 6, according to new research by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster.

In a survey covering over 1,000 people, Munster found that only 34% were planning on snapping up an iPhone 5S or 5C in the next three months, compared to 50% in the days after the launch of those devices last autumn.

However, demand for the current iPhone is actually stronger than it has been at this point in previous years. Munster says this is because of the 5S’s ‘staying power’ and enduring appeal despite a raft of new rivals hitting the market.

Apple is expected to unveil a pair of new iPhones in September. The expected arrival of 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models will see the Cupertino company tweak its strategy to compete with larger Android devices.
