Samsung Galaxy S5 Active health app and camera appear on video

The tech world got its first look at the wellbeing-monitoring credentials of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active today, after a clip of the phone’s HealthBook-alike app leaked online.

Aired by @evkeaks associate TK Tech News, who leaked another hands-on clip of the sports-flavoured Galaxy S5 variant earlier this week, the video walks us through some of what the Active Zone app offers over Samsung’s existing S Health software.

Alongside the addition of a barometer for measuring atmospheric pressure, the app also monitors how many feet users are from sea level. How all this ties into the Exercise part of the Active Zone we’re sure will become apparent in a forthcoming clip.

Also notable about the quantified-self software, which it seems is set to be exclusive to the S5 Active and won’t be coming to other Galaxy kits, are shortcuts to the torch, a stopwatch and the S Health app.

A second clip gives the phone’s video capture smarts a once-over. We’re no auteurs, but even we can discern that the S5 Active’s image stabilisation technology makes a real difference. Which we’re sure is a boon when you’re doing whatever bumpy, runny activity sporty folk get up to.

The phone’s spec sheet is still a matter of conjecture. But it’s purported to be home to a 5.2-inch full-HD screen and a 16-megapixel camera.

Powered by Android 4.4.2 KitKat out the box, the handset is also rumoured to feature a Snapdragon 801 processor.
