Samsung could be about to throw its weight behind so-called Google Glass-style smart-specs, reports suggest, despite a relatively lukewarm response to its existing forays into voguish wearable technology.
The phone-maker has filed a trademark application for a mysterious device dubbed the ‘Gear Blink’. Although there are no further details to go on, its name alone has sparked speculation that what we’re dealing with here is techno eyewear from the House of Sammy.
Sam Mobile, whose record on leaks and predictions is pretty good, backs up its forecast with reference to the fact that Samsung has applied for “quite a few” patents for smart glasses.
The gadget-maker’s most recent filing in this sphere outlined plans for specs that paired with a Bluetooth earpiece and a head-up display.
One other possibility, though, is that 'Blink' could refer to a Gear-branded smartwatch, but one equipped with the same eyeball-tracking technology as the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5.
That could work pretty well for runners who don’t appreciate having to fiddle with a touchscreen to check their heart-rate and pace while they’re pounding the pedways.
It’s thought that Samsung could bring the Gear Blink to market alongside its next Galaxy Note phablet in September. New editions of the Note typically tip up at the IFA technology expo in Berlin.
