HTC M9 and M9 Prime dropping early 2015?

Tech fans can pencil in new flagship smartphones from HTC early next year, as the one-time Android kingpins bid once again to win back marketshare from Samsung.

According to @evleaks, two new HTC handsets are landing in the first quarter of 2015. The first, dubbed the HTC M9, is a follow-up to the One M8 that’s currently leading HTC’s charge.

Alongside it is the HTC M9 Prime, which it’s claimed will actually “hit the shelves first”. This premium edition will feature many of the enhancements that HTC planned for the recently scrapped ‘Prime’ iteration of the One M8.

That means it’ll be waterproof – in keeping with the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony's Xperia Z2 – thanks to a special coating fashioned from an aluminium and liquid silicone composite.

The M8 Prime’s spec sheet was also expected to include 5.5" WQHD screen and a quad-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM and a 6 LTE radio. So it seems it’s safe to say the M9 will also be at the upper end of smartphone-tablet dividing line.

News of HTC’s plans come after HTC predicted better-than-expected sales and profits in the second quarter and claimed it's now on target for its best quarterly performance since 2012.

The improvement has apparently been driven by the well-reviewed HTC One M8’s release in March, as well as strong sales for mid-tier handsets in China.
