Quantum Paper: Google plots massive Android redesign

Google is working on a major redesign of its Android operating system in a bid to unify the look of its mobile and desktop services, it has emerged.

The overhaul, dubbed Quantum Paper, will see key apps and services get a tweak and made cleaner and sharper.

Plans are afoot to make Android more visually arresting and less clunky. This has become hugely pressing after Apple’s success with iOS 7 and Google’s continuing battle to get its partners to use stock Android rather than their own tweaked version.

Recently leaked pics of major redesigns of Gmail give a good indication of the the style that Google is aiming for. With Google+ recently updated, all apps are expected to get a new look by the time the next major update to Android comes out, possibly at the end of 2014.

Google is also said to be developing a new Android home screen. More details are likely to be seen at the company’s I/O event, which starts on June 25th.
