Samsung Galaxy S5 mini: photos and specs leak online

Fresh images and further details of the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini have cropped up on a Samsung fansite, all-but rubber-stamping chatter that the arrival slimmed-down take on the flagship phone is imminent.

Snaps sourced by Sam Mobile reveal that the handset will feature the same perforated backplate as its bigger brother. So no change there.

Also in evidence is the fingerprint scanner that brought biometric security to Galaxy kits for the first time and the heart-rate monitor that pairs with Samsung’s S Health app.

Where there might be a point of difference, though, is that although rubber gasket is present, there are no flaps over the USB port. That’s led some to speculate that although the S5 mini could be water-resistant, it perhaps won’t be certified to the same IP57 level as the standard model.

Other than that, specs published by the site chime broadly with some of what’s already out there. Alongside a 4.5-inch 720p (720×1280) Super AMOLED display, it’s purported to pack a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos processor and an eight-megapixel rear camera.

A 2.1-megapixel front-facer handles selfies, with everything powered by Android 4.4.2 KitKat with the full suite of Samsung’s proprietary apps and software tweaks. Think: Ultra Power Saving Mode, Private Mode, Kids Mode.
