Google Play Store set for major revamp

Google Play Store set for major revamp

Google is set to overhaul the Play Store, with leaked screen shots outlining proposals for a more visually arresting, less clunky experience for Android users.

The pictures, snaffled by the Google fans at Android Police, suggest the store will feature the same aesthetic as the recently unveiled Material Design.

This new design language was revealed at Google I/O in early June and is set to be implemented across the popular operating system. The upshot will a design that's much flatter and features neater app icons.

While these leaked images are essentially a look at Google’s early plans, they appear to confirm that the search giant is taking a less cluttered, more visual approach to its app market too.

Promo videos are also set to take centre stage, giving users a chance to get a closer look at add–ons before clicking ‘buy’.

Text is being given short shrift and there’s a lot less of the white and grey background that meant the Play Store looked seriously dated up against Apple’s App Store.

There’s no word on when the new-look Play Store will hit Android devices.

But with Android L due for release in late 2014, users should hopefully see changes before the year is out.
