iPhone 6: another video puts screen through toughness test

Videos of the iPhone 6 screen that have leaked online recently prove it can take a knocking and keep on rocking. But a fresh clip reveals that it’s far from indestructible.

The video, which is the work of a Chinese tech site and was brought to our attention by the French Apple-fans at Nowhereelse.fr, shows the handset being assaulted with a Stanley knife and smashed with a hammer.

It’s then stress-tested by bending it into shapes are frankly unnatural. On each occasion, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6’s display comes out the other end as good as new.

But, unlike yesterday’s clip from Sonny Dickson, this time around the screen doesn’t make it through the clip unscathed. When a car runs over it, the display finally gives up the ghost and shatters into sad shards.

However, given everything else it was subjected to beforehand, it’s hard not to be impressed by the display’s durability, which appears to further vindicate Apple’s purported decision to opt for a sapphire screen instead of the Corning Gorilla Glass it has favoured since the iPhone 4.

The welter of iPhone 6 currently doing the rounds online have cropped up as we approach the final stage of the handset rumour cycle ahead of its launch date in September.

Speculation suggests that the 4.7-inch edition will be accompanied by a 5.5-inch model that will be Apple’s first-ever phablet and perhaps even the iWatch smartwatch.

Both iPhone 6 iterations are thought to feature a more rounded design, a more robust version of the Touch ID fingerprint scanner and will run the latest iOS 8 software.
