Three inTouch Wi–Fi calling app available now

Three’s inTouch app, which allows users on the network to make calls and send text messages using Wi–Fi rather than a cellular connection, has landed in Google Play and Apple’s App Store.

The app, which has launched earlier than its projected early August timeframe, is free to download and couldn’t be easier to get your head around. Just fire it up and it’ll let you chat with pals and fire off missives even when mobile signal is dead in the water.

You don’t need to login and any minutes and texts you use will come straight off of your monthly allowance. It also works in countries signed up to Three’s free Feel At Home roaming service.

However, if you’re not in one of those 16 countries, Wi–Fi calling will remain a no no. That means either stumping up to make an expensive call, or using the likes of Skype, FaceTime or Google Hangouts instead.

O2 already has a similar offering. EE is also plotting Wi–Fi calls, although it says it’ll switch phones from mobile network to Wi–Fi automatically, without the need for an app.
