HTC has once again revived the fondly remembered Desire brand. And this time it’s for a wallet-friendly 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) handset that it claims is the first to deliver “blazing speed at an affordable price”.

Pitched at the mid-market, the HTC Desire 510 offers support for the newer LTE 4G technology that's capable of connection speeds well in excess of standard 4G – depending on your network, of course.

It’s also loaded with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and totes a quad-core Qualcomm 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, an eight-megapixel camera, 8GB of internal storage and scope to boost this further by adding a microSD card.

Peter Chou, HTC CEO, said: “Owning the latest and greatest technology shouldn’t be reserved for those with the highest budgets. People today should expect their smartphones to double as mobile entertainment hubs.

“This means ensuring that they’re fully loaded with the latest movies, TV shows and albums, by taking advantage of the super-fast network speeds available. The HTC Desire 510 does this and more, making it the perfect mobile media device.”

Pricing for the handset has yet to be announced, but its spec sheet suggests it’ll be up for grabs free from about £25 per month at launch.

O2 has confirmed it will offer the HTC Desire 510 for sale from next month on its early-upgrade Refresh tariff.
