Multiple user accounts coming to Android phones

Android handsets will soon have the ability to switch between user accounts, so you can stop anyone else from using your apps.

Not only will this ensure you get more privacy, it'll also stop children seeing anything they're not supposed to.

Each account will be locked with a password. Unless someone knows the password, they can't use that account.

The feature made its debut on Android tablets last year, but is only now making its way to Android phones.

Google confirmed the feature is on its way, though wouldn't specify exactly when it'll land.

All it would say is that it'll arrive "as a part of the next public build". That could mean the next instalment of Android KitKat, or Android L, which will launch later in the year.

Android L will be the next full version of Android. It's only available as a developer preview at the moment, with a full release expected to coincide with the launch of a new Google handset, possibly the Nexus 6.

Motorola recently announced that the Moto X will get the update to Android L.
