BlackBerry has revealed a new ‘trade up’ programme aimed at convincing iPhone users to ditch their Apple handset and switch to its new Passport smartphone.
The programme allows owners of the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S and Apple’s newest iPhone 6 models to trade in their handset for $400 credit. BlackBerry will then give punters an extra $150 off a Passport.
Anyone keen on the deal will need to buy a BlackBerry Passport first and have proof of purchase. And unfortunately, this is a US and Canada-only offer.
However, the move shows just how desperate BlackBerry has become to try and entice new users to its struggling platform.
After coming close to being acquired in a multi–billion dollar deal in late 2013, the company slimmed down and has continued to make devices.
The BlackBerry Passport’s square design and physical keyboard is meant to appeal to business types who prefer to tap out lengthy missives on a proper keypad.
It can also load up Android apps and comes with the latest BB operating system.
