Google has revealed a simple new tool designed to make it easier to find misplaced phones, in what's sure to be a tonic to forgetful tech fans and a pox on sticky-fingered thieves.
Anyone who can’t find their phone but has access to a desktop device can now simply tap ‘Find My Phone’ into Google’s search bar and see where their phone is on a map.
You can even ask Google to call it for you in the hope that someone might pick it up.
Currently, this feature only works with Android phones and you’ll need to have the newest edition of the Google app in order for it to work.
It should also be noted that the new tool cannot erase data or lock a phone down if you think it’s been stolen rather than lost.
Google’s Android Device Manager app, however, can do that for you, so Android owners should ensure they know how to use this feature too.
You can snare the latter for free from Google Play now. In the meantime, Find My Phone should be rolling out to a phone near you soon.
