HTC’s much-rumoured One A9 smartphone, a redesigned take on its current One M9 flagship, could be the most powerful smartphone in the world when it hits shelves, reports suggest.
A new benchmark result, leaked online, appears to show that the A9, which has been codenamed HTC Aero, will feature a deca–core processor.
The Helio Z20 will run at 1.96GHz and outstrip rivals such as Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge+, which has an octa–core chip.
The phone, which is expected to be revealed at a special HTC event on September 29th, is unlikely to use all of its cores and may prioritise different cores for different tasks.
Either way, it will mean that HTC can grab headlines and try and put on a gloss on a poor year which has seen its profits slide and smartphone sales struggle to match those of key rivals.
The Taiwanese company recently revealed plans to cut staff in order to keep costs down.
New mid–range devices are also expected, in order to try and stay relevant in the Chinese market.
