Google has added a smart tool to its Maps app for Android, allowing road-trippers to search for their nearest petrol station or place to stop for a bite to eat without changing their final destination.
Part of the latest update for Google Maps, this new function works by using the search tool when Maps is in navigation mode.
Users get four options to choose from initially: gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores and coffee. There’s also a further ‘search for more places’ button so you can ask Google for something a bit more niche.
All this can be accessed by tapping the search icon at the top of the screen within maps. If you’re the one at the wheel, might we add it’s essential you use voice functionality rather than fiddling with your phone.
Before, adding searches like this meant swapping your final route out. Now you can add where you need to go en route and Google will get you there, before getting you back on the road to where you really need to be.
The update is yet to hit Google Play but can be accessed via download from Android Police.
