Apple is facing a wave of complaints from iPhone owners, after an ad appearing to up–sell the iPhone 6s began appearing in the App Store.
The ad has been appearing as a pop–up in the App Store this week. Billing the iPhone 6s as ‘ridiculously powerful’, it offers users the chance to click on links to either ‘learn more’ or ‘upgrade now’.
Users on social media claim that the ad appeared after they updated the software on their current iPhone to the latest version of iOS, 9.2. It appears that most users affected are accessing the App Store on 2012’s iPhone 5 and 2013’s iPhone 5s. There are reports that the ads have also been appearing for iPhone 6s owners too.
A lengthy Reddit thread has seen iPhone users complain about Apple’s practices. The ad blockers which Apple allowed in iOS 9 don’t seem to prevent this in–house ad from appearing, claim some users.
Renowned Apple catcher John Gruber has dubbed the ad as ‘uncouth’.
