The next Nexus phones will be built by HTC, and are codenamed the S1 and M1. That's according to ever-reliable leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks).
Other than that, information about the devices is scarce.
Nexus phones are Google's flagship Android devices. The search giant chooses a different manufacturing partner each year to make them on its behalf and uses them to showcase the latest version of its Android operating system.
Last year, Huawei made the Nexus 6P, while LG was responsible for the Nexus 5X.
Nexus smartphones usually launch around September/October/November.
But seeing as Google took the wrappers off the next version of Android (Android N) early this year, we could see the next Nexus phones earlier than expected. Maybe even as soon as Google I/O in May.
HTC has a long and venerable history with the Nexus brand. It made the Nexus One, the first Nexus device, back in 2010.
It also worked on the Nexus 9 tablet, which has just been taken off sale at the Google Store.
Google I/O kicks off on May 18th. Rest assured, we'll bring you all the news as it happens.
