Google has revealed a new smart keyboard app built specifically for the iPhone. Called Gboard, it’s a far more impressive effort than your average third party keypad.
Gboard’s biggest and best feature is the ability to search Google directly from the keyboard. This means that when you’re firing off a text and need to send an address or webpage, you don’t need to leave your messaging app to locate the link, copy it and then head back to send the information.
Instead, you simply tap the ‘G’ button on the top right hand corner of the keyboard, type in your search query and then copy the ‘card’ which appears, popping it into the messaging box in seconds.
That’s not all, Google has added the ability to search emojis by text. Rather than having to scroll through to find the dancing lady or poo–face, you can simply tap in those terms and you’ll get your emoji of choice.
There are also GIF searching smarts and Google’s own swipe–to–text function, called Glide Typing.
Gboard for iPhone is available now in the U.S. with plans to launch in more countries, and more languages, soon.
