Apple is to make its own reality TV series. Casting calls have gone out in the US for a show called Planet of the Apps, with shooting scheduled between late 2016 and early 2017.
Specific details are yet to be revealed. But the programme is being made by the same production company behind the US version of MasterChef, suggesting developers will face off against each other week–by–week until one is crowned the winner.
As well as receiving help from some of the "world's best experts in tech and entertainment", Apple will also offer developers the chance to present their apps to backers with funding of as much as $10 million.
Applications that feature in the show will also be showcased prominently in the App Store.
Those applying must have made an app for Apple’s iOS, macOS, tvOS or watchOS platforms by October 21st.
Applications to join the shoot in Los Angeles close on August 26th. No date has been given for when the show will air.
Apple has long planned to move into TV production, as it looks to take on rivals such as Amazon and Netflix.
