Apple sold 71.6% fewer Apple Watches between July and September 2016 compared with the same period last year.
The figures, from market research firm IDC, say that Apple shifted around 1.1 million units of smartwatch over the summer months. It sold 3.9 million over the summer of 2015.
Apple does not officially reveal Apple Watch sales figures and has not done so since the first watch hit shelves in April 2015.
While the slump can be put down partially to the traditional summer tail off and the fact that Apple was readying its Apple Watch Series 2 for September, the numbers will make for bad news at the company’s Cupertino HQ.
Just this week it was reported that Apple was closing its Apple Watch concession in Paris’s Galeries Lafayette due to poor sales.
The drop fits into a wider slide across the smartwatch sector, which saw sales plummet by 51.6% in the third quarter. Apple’s woes, it seems, are shared by every major tech player out there.
