iPhone could get ‘theatre mode’ aimed at cinema goers

Apple is working on a new ‘theatre mode’ for iPhone and iPad aimed at stopping nuisance calls, texts and notifications while at the cinema.

That’s according to renowned Apple leaker Sonny Dickson. He says that the new mode will form part of iOS 10.3, Apple’s next software update, which is due to be sent to developers next week.

Dickson claims theatre mode will feature a special popcorn logo and will sit within the Control Centre part of the iPhone's operating system, which is accessible by flicking up on any screen.

Further investigations suggest Apple could utilise tech it’s previously patented to block calls, turn off vibrations and silence any ringtones.

Screen brightness could also be dipped in order to minimise distractions if a device is used during a screening.

Silent mode has long been ineffective at stopping cinema-goers being distracted. The alternative, of course, would be to completely power down a device while watching a film.
