Facebook Messenger gets group payments feature

Facebook has added a new group payment tool to its Messenger app for Android, allowing users to pay more than one person at a time.

Also available on desktop, the service is designed to help split the costs of everything from restaurant bills to gifts.

Users can send money to multiple contacts, or request cash, ideal whenever someone’s being tardy about paying up for last night’s dinner.

As with existing Messenger payments, users need to add a debit card’s details and set up a PIN for additional security.

Facebook says an iOS version is heading to iPhone and iPad later this year.

There’s only one catch though: group payments only work in the United States, and there’s no word on when it’ll be launched here in the UK.

That means for now you’ll have to stick with banking apps and Paypal to cover the cost of a night out without withdrawing money.
