Instagram app no longer required to post pictures

Instagram has given its mobile website a major overhaul, allowing users to post pictures via the site for the first time.

Until now, Instagram users had to download the photo sharing service’s app and share images from there.

Its mobile site was reserved for simply browsing and liking pics and checking notifications.

The change means that those who have poor web connections and struggle to download apps can join the party more easily.

It’s all part of Instagram’s wider plans to expand globally, especially in places where 3G and 4G networks are not up to scratch.

The update, however, does not extend to Instagram’s desktop site, which will disappoint photographers and more professional users looking to post higher quality images.

The updated website is available to use now.

Instagram stated: “ (accessed from mobile) is a web experience optimized [sic] for mobile phones.

"It’s designed to help people have a fuller experience on Instagram no matter what device or network they are on.”
