Apple’s next–generation smartwatch will keep the same design as the current model and won’t feature an ‘all new form factor’ as some have previously predicted.
That’s the word from analyst Ming Chi Kuo, known for getting his Apple pronouncements spot-on.
He forecasts that the Apple Watch Series 3 won’t look any different to older editions of the device, contrary to last week's claims from keen Apple-watcher John Gruber.
However, Kuo has confirmed with ‘people with familiar with the matter’ that 4G LTE will be a feature of the Apple Watch Series 3, allowing the device to work separately from an iPhone.
Kuo says that Apple will offer LTE and non–LTE editions, much as it does with the iPad.
Non-4G models are likely to require a regular connection with an iPhone, while models with 4G connectivity will be offered through mobile phone networks.
A release date has not yet been confirmed, but it is now widely expected that the Apple Watch Series 3 will launch before the end of 2017.
